A note from our Presidents…

May has been a great month at Westfield! Thanks to Christine Zellinger for organizing Teacher Appreciation Week, Dana Gasperko for co-chairing the Monday teacher breakfast with her, and the 5th grade parents for hosting the teacher lunch on Friday. We received numerous thank yous from the teachers, who really appreciated our expressions of gratitude.

We are also grateful to the team of Nikki Battles, Anne Soto, Val Magnussen, Joan Klaus, Tracie Jasper, Meghan Riley, Amy Zeman, Jackie Rickert and Emily Frederick for planning the end of year family Wild West Shindig. Games, pictures, line-dancing, food, crafts…they had it all. What a great night ladies. We know a tremendous amount of planning goes into these parties, so we thank you for all of your hard work! And they couldn’t have done it without line dance instructor Brittany Valdez and many volunteers. A special thank you to Mr. Rico for all his help setting up and cleaning up!

Before we close the books on another great school year, we want to thank every single person that made a difference at Westfield in 2016-17. Whether you were a room parent, Junior Great Books leader, movie night chaperone, chaired one of the many family events or volunteered at any of the many events and programs, you have our most sincere gratitude. The dedication of our families is an important part of what makes this community such a wonderful place to be!

We thank the leaders of each event in the Hotline during the year, but there are plenty of people who have been volunteering at important jobs all year long!

  • Christine Zellinger, Danya Greschuk, and their team collected pictures and worked countless hours to make sure our kids have a wonderful Westfield Memory Book.
  • Anita Alsbury did a fantastic job making sure the Westfield PTC website was always top notch and up to date. She also did fun, creative bulletin boards during Box Top collections.
  • Carrie Zimmer provided room parents with all the information they needed to ensure class parties were a success.
  • Emily Pope gave the kids great choices when they went to Principal Hewick’s office to select a birthday book.
  • Karla Gatica made sure every child would see his or her name on the birthday bulletin board by keeping it updated each month.
  • Kara Stacy kept up our school spirit with a great assortment of Westfield spirit wear.
  • Meredith Darbyshire kept us all in the know using her special talents as editor of the monthly Hotline.
  • Movie nights were bigger than ever thanks to the team of Rebecca DePorter, Stephanie Bailey and Jackie Rickert.
  • Kara Higley-Kubik, Stephanie Cooke, and their team of volunteers kept the kids in great shape with fall and spring Mileage Club.
  • Jessica Schwarz spared us a night of cooking each month with the good eats of restaurant night.
  • Sara Fort and Nicole Corbin dressed in their matching Westfield aprons and hats while selling fun items at the monthly school store.
  • Jamie Konzelman and Lynn Lullo helped the community through their selfless efforts throughout the year. Community outreach is very important to our Westfield family.
  • The PTC officers – Michele Hedden, Lynn Lullo, Jackie Abbott, Rick Garbett and Jim Lysaght – work diligently all year, some of which is unseen but is certainly appreciated.

We also have a number of active PTC parents who are “graduating” from Westfield. We wish them all the best as their youngest child transitions to Glen Crest.

  • Kelly Pratt – We are grateful to Kelly for her service over the years as a PTC co-President, room parent, and volunteer at many events.
  • Michelle Bell – She’s been an enthusiastic Market Day coordinator, Enchanted Castle event chair, room parent, and consistent volunteer.
  • Jessica Schwarz – We can thank Jessica for her hard work to bring Girls on the Run to Westfield. She also coordinates restaurant nights and chaired Box Tops for a year.
  • Dana Gasperko – Our teachers have been shown our sincere appreciation and been well fed thanks to Dana’s efforts for the teacher appreciation brunch.

We could not do all of this without the support of Ms. Hewick, who allows us to be a part of the kids’ experience at Westfield and is a fantastic partner. We’re grateful to Mrs. Cardona, who helps us in so many ways. And thank you to Ms. Bardack for being the staff liaison to the PTC. We’re grateful for your thoughtful insights and your generous contributions of time.  We are so appreciative of Mr. Rico who supports all our events tirelessly!

Lastly, we welcome Jackie Rickert, incoming co-President, and Jamie Konzelman, incoming Secretary, to the PTC board. We appreciate your spirit of service!

For anyone we may have unintentionally missed, please know that we are grateful for your efforts, and the kids are certainly enriched by the generosity of your time and talents. Wishing everyone a fabulous summer. See you all at the PTC meet and greet on August 15!

Lynn and Michele
